MVM History
We are radically committed to meeting the needs of Christian men, helping them grow into maturity in Christ. We are interested in making disciples, not just workers; therefore fulfilling the Great Commission as part of our Kingdom agenda. Our goal is to encourage men to pursue God and equip them for service in the home, church, workplace, community and the world.
The first MVM conference was held at the Harrisburg Hilton and Towers in 1998. For the past 12 years, we have been encouraging and empowering men to meet the challenges of the day in the power of Christ. The scriptural context out of which this conference was ignited is Judges 6. You know the story. In verse 11, we pick Gideon up hiding out in a wine press. He, like the Israelites, had lost his purity, prosperity, freedom and peace. He was just trying to eke out an existence, not get in trouble and stay alive. Sounds like too many men today! He doubted. He hesitated. He wondered. He squirmed. He feared. In the very midst of his circumstances the Angel of the Lord appeared with a proclamation that he would save his people, that God would be with him, and he would have peace. Peace is a sign of things being right in our lives and with our God. Right while he was hiding out God declared him to be a mighty man of valor! Gideon was God’s chosen leader.
In a world of lost people, a culture adrift, God has placed each of us within this unique time for a specific purpose. It is time to set aside life’s fantasies and focus on the realities, reclaiming our responsibilities to God, our families and our professions. Strong men create strong families. Strong families create strong churches. Strong churches create strong communities.
